It has been a wonderful start to the ministry year (September – August). We have 76 school sites approved for ministry and over 1,000 children enrolled in Good News Club. When children learn that they are created by God and how much He loves them, by sending Jesus to take the punishment they deserve, their faces light up and you can see the joy! We know the work the Lord called us to, as staff and volunteers, is important because Jesus loves the little children. However, last week one student gave us a look at how important it was to her. This was submitted by one of our local volunteers.
I wanted to share with you a precious story that occurred yesterday at our Good News Club at Century Elementary. We always give our sixth graders a little gift on the last day of club as a way of encouraging them and thanking them, because we will not be having any influence on them anymore as they’re heading to a different school. Thankfully, we had the necessary gifts for our sixth graders yesterday because we discovered that none of them would be with us next week because they would be in Sonora at camp. We asked the four 6th graders (all girls) if we could pray for them. After we did that, one of the sixth grade girls asked if she also could pray. ( I have taught her for many years, and she is a very kind young lady). In her prayer, she thanked us for being her teachers from first through sixth grade; she expressed gratitude for the Good News Club and she encouraged the younger students to stay active in the Good News Club. We teachers were very blessed by her prayer, as I have never had a student do that in all of my years of teaching. One of the other sixth grade girls had a tear rolling down her face. It was very touching. I know stories like this are encouraging as we hope and pray we’re making a difference in the lives of these children.
Our family of trained staff and volunteers makes an eternal difference for many children. We know the strong influences the world has on children, many with challenges at home and many with peer issues at school. What better place to meet Jesus and know He will never leave you or forsake you. I am so moved that young girl encouraged the younger ones to continue to come and be involved in Good News Club. What a beautiful testimony! |
