March Mercy – 7 Days Left!

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy,  and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:6-8

March Mercy

The Faithfulness of the Lord

This picture reflects over three decades of the Lord’s faithfulness to the local ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship. Vinny Zier was the Director from 1991-1999. She was followed by Jeri Crapo, Director from 1999-2009. I, Tammy Beers, was hired in 2009 and became Director in March, 2011, the day this photo was taken. It’s been said, ‘The days are long, but the years are short.’ How true that is! When I was trained as a Good News Club volunteer in 2003, I never imagined the Lord would call me to this mission field fulltime, but suddenly 20 years have passed.

It has been such a gift to work with people, who are now like family, through the years. As iron sharpens iron, we have matured into a unified team that works to glorify the Lord through our mutual call to reach children for Christ. Today, I am announcing my retirement in October of this year. It is my desire to mentor the next Director in all areas of our ministry so that passing the torch of leadership will be as seamless as possible.

I want to express my personal thankfulness for the last 20 years, first to the Lord, my family and all of YOU! Your support has been overwhelming and I have great expectations for the days to come. The Lord will be just as faithful in the years to come as He has been since 1937 when CEF was incorporated. May you all continue to be burdened for the salvation of children in our community, supporting our efforts to reach them, until Jesus returns!

The 2024 ministry budget supports 8 staff members (4 full-time Missionaries, 2 part-time missionaries and 2 part-time admin staff). As a Training and Equipping Center, we screen, interview, background check, train and equip a volunteer force of 193 people. We ensure compliance with Child Protection standards as well as ministry standards established by CEF International and offer ongoing support through individual and group meetings, Youtube lesson vdeos and manage all the administrative details with 20 school districts. These districts are spread throughout four counties: Fresno, Madera, Tulare and Kings and we will be in about 80 school sites this year. We reached 5,496 children last year at a cost of $90/child to bring the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ to children so they can begin an eternal relationship with Him.

March Mercy is a critical event so that our time and focus can continue to be on reaching children for Christ. If you haven’t donated yet, would you consider a gift of $90 knowing the return on your investment will bring eternal dividends! Our entire team and Local Governing Committee is grateful for your sacrificial support. -Tammy Beers

Far Beyond The Classroom

While in a fast-food restaurant, I noticed a family was pointing at me. I didn’t recognize them but as I was leaving I walked over to their table. It was two kids who had been in my Good News Club at Ewing Elementary. They wanted me to guess their names! Seeing hundreds of kids each year it is hard to remember everyone’s name. But, I finally guessed them and we had a good laugh. I had the chance to ask them what they are doing now. One of them who is in high school already, is pictured here when he was in the Club. The other is in 5th grade now. Seeing them encouraged me, more than it did them, knowing we had shared God’s Word and they remembered our time together. I invited them to an outreach I help with on Fridays. I was grateful to see them and be reminded of the impact being made for Christ and how it extends far beyond the one hour Club in the classroom at an elementary school. – Aaron Keller, Field Missionary

From Volunteer to Donor

I met Ollie several years ago when she trained to serve in a Good News Club (GNC) with her daughter. She hasn’t been able to volunteer her time in the field, but she has never stopped supporting the ministry. She talks and shares about the value of the after-school GNC whenever she can! At some point, she started saving her recyclables and bring the money to our office. When her Sunday School learned about it, they started giving her their recyclables. Because Ollie loves the Lord, and she loves children, she wants them to know Jesus! She tells everyone about GNC!

Many people now save and give her their recyclables to cash in for the ministry. Once she gets $200, she brings it to the office. When she came in February, she said her new neighbor asked her about all the recycling she does and when she heard it was for GNC, she wanted to help too. Her neighbor gave her $200 to bring in for us. I praise God for Ollie, who is raising awareness of the need for children to meet Jesus AND she always has a smile on her face – she radiates the joy of Jesus! Thank you Ollie, for your hard work, perseverance and service to make sure children can learn that Jesus loves them.

Serving with Joy

Our Tuesday office volunteers bless our ministry with their faithful commitment to keep us prepared for each season of ministry. It might be stamping Bibles, stuffing envelopes or making name tags – to mention a few. Evelyn Koop has served for years, blessing us not only with her smile and kindness but also her generosity with her time, talent and treasure. She was in the office on March 11 for the first time in several months due to health issues. We were so glad to see and hug her! We did not know the Lord would take her home quickly 8 days later. I’m so glad I took this picture of Trish Wright, Evelyn Koop, Barbara Pierson, and Gisela Bigbee. What a gift the Lord gave us to see her one more time this side of heaven. She is a gift to our souls and we loved the jelly she canned and shared each year. Until we meet again in heaven, thank you Evelyn, for everything!

Please continue to pray for the Lord’s mercy on this fundraising effort.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
