How we speak.. It is said that first-century Jewish rabbis referred to wisdom as “salt” – something that is both a preservative and is tasty (attractive).A ‘Covenant of Salt’ suggested a permanent bond between the parties. Jesus, as a teacher, may have been using that metaphor when He said that His followers were the “salt of the earth.” Paul said something similar in Ephesians 4:29, saying that our speech should be edifying and a source of grace to those who hear our words. How do we talk when around non-believers? Do we speak like the world, trying to fit in? Or do we speak graciously in ways that build up our hearers? (1) As we resume ministry next week in schools throughout the Valley, let’s remember how important our speech will be with school staff, parents and especially the children. By our speech, we can show the character of Christ to those who are not saved. Children need to learn about Jesus and will be drawn to Him when they are respected and cared for in the Good News Club. This starts as they enter the door. Greeting them with a smile, eye contact, genuine concern can begin a positive relationship. Listening with both eyes and ears! Not multi-tasking and half listening. Using wholesome language and pure talk is also attractive. Encouraging the children with well prepared Bible lessons and fun repetition to learn the memory verse! Make every effort to see the children as their heavenly Father sees them: sweet, innocent, and “made by hand” with a purpose. It is such a privilege to bring the Gospel to school, let’s make every effort to edify others so that it will give grace to those who hear.(2) (1) Turning Point with Dr. D. Jeremiah (2) Understanding the Gospel, Laura MacLean Ask the Lord to: - Grant time to prepare for their respective Good News Club. May they be filled with joy as the Holy Spirit reveal the children who need Him the most.
- Strengthen our team as they train again this week to expand our volunteer resources.
- Sustain health and wellness for each staff member and volunteer to ensure sufficient support and encouragement to one another
- Prompt golfers to register as soon as possible for the Darryl Rogers Golf Tournament and may sponsors respond generously to help us raise funds for ministry.
We are grateful for your prayers and ask that you lift these requests up daily. With grateful appreciation, Tammy |
